Show One More

"I was practising showing one more number than a number. First I had to roll the dice and see how many I did. Then draw how many I get and one more than that and then I wrote the number down." - Max

Writing: Before & After

Dear Max,

You have made a lot of progress in writing this year. Here is a sample of your work from September:

This work shows that you knew some letters and used this knowledge for invented spelling. Here is a sample of your work from April:

This work shows that you can write most beginning sounds using correct letter-sound connections. You are also gaining confidence with correct middle and end sound recording.

Congratulations on your progress Max! You have worked hard on your writing.

Memorized Reading

Dear Max,

Both at school and at home, you've shown a recent interest in independent reading. You have always loved listening to stories and can repeat many familiar repeating texts and rhymes. Now you are applying these skills to your own reading! Here you are memorized reading the book Five Little Monkeys.

Extending a Story Using Puppets (Being a Risk-taker & Communicator)

Dear Max,

You worked with your friend Maanya to extend my puppet story during your free play. This is an example of how you are a risk-taker and communicator. At first you didn't want to use the puppets because you were too shy, but then you took a risk. Your story shows that you were listening to Ms. Alison's story because you used details from it in your own storytelling. You also showed strong speaking skills by taking on the voice of a character and explaining a story using words and voice. Listening and speaking are both parts of being a communicator.

When I asked you about this work, you said:

"I was talking and it was loud. The story was about animals and life so it was good."
